That I haven’t had the pleasure of doing. I don’t think a horrible time going through customs is limited to LA. Detroit and Houston have both sucked. Not so much because of the facilities, but because of the way understaffed passport control and baggage recheck stations.

Nah, LAX is bad. I've been around and it is the worst. Even worse than JFK in the bad days. You wait forever then you have to walk out of the secure area to change terminals/Gates. That means dealing with TSA again.
